About Tom
I have my Technologist Diploma and my Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, and have recently completed a Masters Degree in Instructional Design with a focus on Adult Education and Accessible Education. I was formerly employed in a highway planning and construction role for nearly 12 years but now work in post-secondary education. I believe strongly in "math-by-doing" as the basis for real world applications.

I believe in "mathematics by doing". You can't learn to swim without getting wet or become a musician without picking up an instrument. Math is no different. A student learns best through practical exercises and real-world problem solving. Math cannot be learned by reading examples or listening to lectures alone. It must be engaged with.
I believe in "real-world math". Divorcing math from its applications or reducing it to abstract symbol manipulation robs it of its true beauty. Math must be contextualized and placed alongside real world examples.
Finding an answer is good. Knowing what a solution means is better.

Perfect! I've never had a tutor before, and it seemed quite daunting, but my first session with Tom was fantastic. Explained everything and made sure I understood what he was teaching me (University level Physics) made it a lot simpler. Very easy going, very attentive, and overall just the best! Besides being an awesome tutor, he's a really great guy! I would recommend to anyone!!
