About Max
Tutor specialising in GCSE Maths and Science, with a strong academic background and experience supporting students to develop both subject knowledge and confidence. I aim to make demanding material clear, structured and engaging, while helping students become more independent and effective learners.
My approach is patient and highly personalised. I identify areas where a student is struggling, break them down into manageable steps and then build towards more challenging questions as their understanding develops. I encourage students to ask questions, learn from mistakes and develop the confidence to tackle problems independently.
Having studied at a Russell Group university, I understand the demands of competitive academic environments and the importance of developing strong study habits from an early stage. I can offer students practical guidance on exam preparation, revision strategies and building long-term academic confidence.
I can support students with GCSE Maths and Science, subject understanding, homework, revision, exam technique and preparation, while helping them develop the confidence and independent learning skills needed to succeed academically.

My teaching is shaped around the level, goals and learning style of each student. I focus on breaking difficult concepts into manageable parts, building understanding step by step, and showing how different topics connect to one another. I use clear explanations, worked examples and practical applications to make challenging material easier to understand, remember and apply independently.
For GCSE Maths and Science, I place particular emphasis on developing a strong understanding of the fundamentals. Rather than relying solely on memorisation, I help students understand why methods work, recognise patterns, apply concepts to unfamiliar questions and approach problems logically. This provides a solid foundation for tackling more demanding topics and building confidence over time.
Alongside subject knowledge, I help students develop effective problem-solving and exam skills. We work on interpreting questions carefully, structuring answers, showing working clearly, avoiding common mistakes and learning how to approach unfamiliar problems. I adapt lessons to each student's needs, whether they are looking to strengthen their foundations, improve their grades or prepare for GCSE exams.
I can also provide focused support with exam preparation, revision planning, homework and coursework, helping students develop effective independent study habits and greater confidence in their academic work.
