About Okka
I am a third-year Biomed student from the University of Melbourne. I consider myself to be a fluid mandarin speaker as I used to tutor none native mandarin speakers in mandarin for three years. All the students that I had taught at the International School of Myanmar scored 4 or higher on their AP Chinese Language.

My teaching method revolves around introducing basic daily vocabularies with illustrations for better memorization. I let my students practice new vocabularies by teaching them how to incorporate new vocabularies into their daily conversation. I prefer teaching at a slower pace with repeated practice as It allows my student to get a strong foundation of the language before tackling down difficult contents. . I do not teach with textbooks as it tends to alienate my student with the sheer amount of content thrown at them. I always prepare my own lessons that integrate only the relevant vocabularies and information. My lessons are often condensed into simple PowerPoint presentations with many illustrations paired with vocabularies and sentences. I believe illustrations allow students to learn a foreign language better as students tend to draw comparisons within the illustrations.
