About Ellie
I grew up in New York and attended high school at Friends Seminary, in Gramercy. I then went on to graduate from Kenyon College with a double major in International Studies and Biology. After graduating college with a Bachelor of Arts, I have worked with high school juniors in a college-prep capacity ever since. In my free time, I love to listen to music, cook, and play sports with friends.

As a college prep tutor, my approach is centered around equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their college journey. Here's an overview of my approach:
1. Assessing the Student: I begin by assessing the student's current academic standing, including their strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. Additionally, I discuss their college goals and aspirations to gain a comprehensive understanding of their needs.
2. College Readiness Guidance: I provide guidance on various aspects of college readiness, such as selecting the right courses, preparing for standardized tests (SAT, ACT), writing college essays, and navigating the college application process. I also offer advice on extracurricular activities, internships, and other experiences that can strengthen their college applications.
3. Personalized Study Plans: Based on the student's goals and assessment results, I create a personalized study plan that includes a timeline for test preparation, essay writing, and application submission. I break down the required tasks into manageable steps to ensure progress and minimize stress.
4. Test Preparation Strategies: I employ effective strategies to help students excel in standardized tests. This includes teaching test-taking techniques, providing practice questions, and conducting mock exams to familiarize them with the format and timing of the tests. I also focus on areas where students need improvement, such as critical reading, math, and writing skills.
5. Essay Coaching: I assist students in crafting compelling and authentic college essays that reflect their unique personalities and experiences. This involves brainstorming ideas, structuring the essays, and providing feedback on content, style, and grammar. I emphasize the importance of showcasing their strengths and passions to make their applications stand out.
6. Application Support: I guide students through the college application process, ensuring that they meet deadlines and complete all required documents accurately. I offer insights on how to present their extracurricular activities, achievements, and recommendations effectively to create a strong application profile.
7. Interview Preparation: For colleges that conduct interviews as part of the admission process, I provide guidance and practice sessions to help students feel confident and prepared. I offer tips on answering common interview questions, body language, and overall presentation.
8. Ongoing Support: Throughout the tutoring process, I provide ongoing support, encouragement, and motivation to keep students focused and determined. I am available to answer questions, address concerns, and provide guidance whenever needed.
My college prep tutoring is primarily aimed at high school students who are preparing for the college application process. This includes students in their junior and senior years who are seeking guidance on standardized tests, college essays, and overall college readiness. I am well-versed in various academic subjects and can provide support across disciplines, ensuring students are prepared for the academic challenges of college.
