About Nicholas
Hello! My name is Nicholas Mandato, and I am a University of Florida graduate with a degree in Biology, currently applying to medical school. I am passionate about helping students excel in their academic journeys. Growing up in Albany, NY, I developed a love for learning and the outdoors, spending time skiing, hiking, and training for track.
My diverse experiences, including volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and working as a patient care assistant, have taught me the importance of empathy, communication, and resilience. These qualities are integral to my approach as a tutor. I specialize in tutoring math, science, and English for middle school, high school, and undergraduate students. My goal is to provide personalized and engaging lessons that not only improve academic performance but also foster a lifelong love for learning.
In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, hiking, and exploring new culinary recipes. I am also a music enthusiast, with a particular interest in hip-hop trap, EDM, and classic rock. I look forward to helping you achieve your academic goals with confidence and enthusiasm.

My teaching method focuses on fostering a deep understanding of the subject matter while developing critical thinking skills. I use a student-centered approach, adapting my techniques to the unique learning style and pace of each student. Techniques I employ include:
- Encouraging students to actively engage with the material through discussions, problem-solving, and hands-on activities.
- Asking guiding questions to stimulate critical thinking and help students arrive at answers independently.
- Breaking down complex concepts into smaller, more manageable parts, gradually increasing the difficulty as the student's understanding grows.
- Connecting theoretical concepts to real-world examples to make the material more relevant and engaging.
Typical Lesson Plan:
- Briefly revisit the last lesson to reinforce retention and address any lingering questions.
- Present the new topic with an overview, highlighting its importance and applications.
- Explain the new concepts using visual aids, examples, and interactive discussions.
- Work through problems together, gradually allowing the student to take the lead.
- Assign practice problems for the student to complete independently, providing guidance as needed.
- Summarize key points and answer any remaining questions.
- Assign homework and give a brief preview of the next lesson's topic to build anticipation and prepare the student.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
- Personalized Approach: I tailor my teaching methods to each student's learning style, ensuring they grasp concepts effectively and build confidence.
- Patient and Encouraging: I create a supportive and positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
- Diverse Experience: With a background in biology from the University of Florida and extensive tutoring experience, I bring a well-rounded perspective to my teaching.
- Commitment to Growth: I continuously seek to improve my tutoring techniques and stay updated on the latest educational strategies to provide the best possible support for my students.
