About Russell
Mathematics has been central to a twenty year tutoring career during which I have taught 1030 students across an enormous range of levels and genuine abilities. My academic training began at an advanced level, followed by years of professional teaching experience, giving me both practical and pedagogical grounding in the subject. I have worked in one on one private sessions, small group classes, and intensive exam preparation courses, building an unusually wide toolkit over the years. Colleagues and former students describe me as calm and unshakeable, a reputation built from encountering nearly every type of academic struggle imaginable.

Mathematics lessons under my guidance move fluidly between pure technique and genuine conceptual understanding depending entirely on what a given student currently needs, judged through careful ongoing observation rather than a fixed plan. With younger or struggling students I slow down considerably, relying on repetition and visual aids, while with advanced students I move into a faster, more rigorous pace built around genuinely challenging problem sets. I insist on handwritten working even when digital tools are available, since I have observed handwriting slows students down just enough to think more carefully. I draw on two decades of accumulated case studies for tricky explanations.
