About Stan
Holding a DMA from the University of Michigan School of Music, I feel the resonance of a well-tuned violin string under my fingertips. I have spent 13 years teaching students who range from 4-year-old beginners to high schoolers preparing for college auditions. My home studio in Los Angeles serves as a base for this work alongside my time playing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
My approach focuses on tone production, posture, and hold. You will find that I emphasize spiccato and staccato bowing along with shifting positions and vibrato. We cover scales and arpeggios, intonation, and ear training to build a solid foundation. Please reach out if you would like to arrange a time for us to play.

Alexander Technique principles form the bedrock of my practice, where posture and breath precede technical execution. It is a striking fact that physical release is the most important component of string playing.
I guide students through 10 distinct phases of movement to ensure they remain tension free. My lessons draw on my 13 years of experience as a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic to refine your artistic voice.
I provide recorded playback of tricky passages for home practice to assist your memory between our meetings. This high level of support ensures that students understand the nuance of each passage.
I often use my background from the University of Michigan to explain the mechanics behind complex bowing patterns. My goal is to ensure you feel confident when navigating difficult repertoire. I personally find that recording these segments is the most effective way to track progress over several months. It is my pleasure to share the stage with my students as they grow.
