About Ian
Rhythm guitar, songwriting, scales and modes, lead guitar, reading sheet music, improvisation and soloing, and barre chords define my daily practice. I admit that learning through cassette tapes and tabs was messy, yet it forged the path I now walk. With 8 years of experience teaching others, my work balances self-taught curiosity with formal theory.
This degree of study serves as the bedrock for my students who want to create their own music. You might enjoy checking out the studio if you ever want to chat about gear or song ideas.
My 15 plus years of gigging experience inform how I view the fretboard as a compositional tool rather than just a showpiece. Being self-taught means I understand the frustration of hitting a plateau. I prefer working with musicians who want to construct songs from the ground up. Come by and play some chords whenever you feel ready to start writing.

Focusing on composition allows students to understand the instrument as a creative vessel rather than a performance prop. I confess that I spent years ignoring music theory until I realized how much it helps organize raw sonic ideas.
My approach centers on your original voice, using guitar to anchor your songwriting process. Lessons integrate 8 years of experience to ensure technical exercises translate into actual music.
A practice module with every lesson keeps momentum high throughout the week. Expect to walk away with clear objectives for your next session. We can explore new scales or simply refine your rhythm guitar feel. I keep the atmosphere light so we can get right into the fun work of making sounds.
