About Martin

With thousands of hours taught online and in-person, I am a reliable professional who can make a real difference in your learning of the French language—be it your first, second, third, or even fourth tongue! Besides teaching in high school, assisting university professors, and conducting plenty of workshops online, I've also translated and edited more than fifty books. I translate simultaneously almost every day (i.e., I engage in interpretation), and I also worked as a closed captioner for CBC/Radio-Canada in my college years. French isn't just my native tongue—it's been a living for the past 30 years!

About the lesson

Whether you’re starting from scratch, you need help with an exam, or you want to refine your mastery of the language, you’re at the right place! We can focus on conversation skills, having a discussion together, or yet polish your pronounciation thanks to phonetic exercises. Should you prefer to work on your written skills or your understanding, I also have plenty of materials to help you bring your French to a higher level. I have thousands of hours of teaching experience, and would be more than glad to count you among my raft of very satisfied students. Book your first lesson to get your free trial!

Martin's response
Narges is a talented, thoughtful student who cares about speaking French as best as she can. While some would think their level is good enough for a third or fourth language, Narges reaches far beyond the "acceptable." She's mindful of the finest details, which is a quality only those reaching after excellence possess.

Martin's response
Cara is a really advanced French speaker. She already knows how to conjugate tenses as challenging as plus-que-parfait and futur antérieur, and shows she has made a lot of effort in learning past participles. No doubt she has the skills to evolve in a French-speaking environment—be it at work or outside work.

Martin's response
Every student is different, and Sebastian is no exception. I am glad I could help him through various discussions to gain back his fluency in Molière's tongue, after decades spent outside a French-speaking environment. As we say in French, it's like riding a bike (faire de la bicyclette) ; a language is never lost—it gets revived in the wink of an eye!

Martin and I are part of the same non-profit organisation where we give workshops to French-speaking audiences all around the world. I have also seen him teach several times. I can guarantee he has everything it takes to teach master classes—physically or online. Super prof, indeed!Martin is a person with a great attention span and strong responsiveness. He has a high capacity for common sense, which is not common these days, and also for benevolence while remaining focused on the request and the objective. Martin is structured and methodical in preparing classes (lineup, exercises, etc.) and respectful of timings. Being young, I would have appreciated having had a teacher as gifted as Martin.

But also a private trainer in the aeronautical and automotive industries in Spain.

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I started teaching languages in 2004 as a substitute teacher in high school. Though I have engaged in many other activities since-like translating dozens of books-I kept working with the French language all the time, be it as an editor, an interpreter or a writer. The advent of platforms such as Superprof has allowed me to harmonize my deep interest in teaching to my other freelance activities.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
I have always been passionate about my mother tongue. French has been my forte since primary school. Thus it should come as no surprise that I studied French literature when I went to college after my teenage years.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
The advantage when teaching one-on-one or to a small group of people is that you can customize your teachings and see learners progress in a blink of an eye. My recipe to be a Superprof is that I don't have a "one size fits all" approach; I may have some classes already prepared on various topics and grammatical difficulties, but in the end, I have no problem teaching a brand-new course to fit my students' specific demands.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.
I really appreciated one of my French teachers, who dedicated one class a week to reading. Students were entitled to read anything for an hour, as long as it was literature. This really spurred my passion for reading and it made me understand that theoretical knowledge starts to make sense when applied in practice. He helped me realize that a greater mastery of my native tongue could help me better understand wonderful stories, not to say characters' fine psychologies.
What are your keys to success?
The main key to success is always to love what you are doing as to not feel it as a burden. But we cannot always love what we are obliged to learn, right? Perhaps French is just a language you need for a job, a better integration into society, or to earn a grade or a diploma. I understand that. However, I believe using games, videos and other teaching aids might greatly help one's learning-for pleasure is just the other primal key to success.
